Susanna Hoffs has just recorded a new version of the Bangles’ ballad, “Eternal Flame.” The 66-year-old singer stayed true to the original Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit released in 1988, which she co-wrote with Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. “I was inspired to sing it again!” Hoffs said in a statement. “As I stood before the microphone, I fought back tears of gratitude — for the opportunity to sing a song I have loved and cherished my entire adult life. We’ve grown up together! I’m still that same girl with that same emotion — older, and hopefully wiser.” Hoffs is fresh off her stellar performance of Patti Smith‘s classic Horses track, “Kimberly,” at Carnegie Hall last week as part of the tribute concert, “People Have the Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith.” She announced that a version of “Eternal Flame” featuring the yMusic chamber ensemble will be released on April 9, with a new album scheduled for the fall, which follows her 2024 solo album, The Lost Record.
