Drake is readying himself for a lengthy trial against Universal Music Group over Kendrick Lamar‘s Grammy-winning diss track, “Not Like Us.” Court documents obtained on Wednesday (April 9) reveal that Drake’s legal defense team states that “settlement discussions have not taken place,” with both parties gearing up for an expected three-week jury trial in New York. Lamar’s track, released amid a public feud in May 2024, refers to Drake as a “certified pedophile” who should be “placed on neighborhood watch.” The controversy escalated when Lamar performed the song during the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, reaching a record-breaking TV audience. Amid ongoing legal battles and public clashes, Drake’s legal team claims UMG continued to promote the track despite the harm caused by the allegations. UMG has previously said Drake “lost a rap battle that he provoked” and “sued his own record label in a misguided attempt to salve his wounds.” (People)
