Senator Linda Chesterfield, Church Member and Renee Hubert invite the community to celebrate the 180th anniversary of First Missionary Baptist Church the weekend of April 25 through 27. Founded in 1845 by enslaved individuals, the church is the only one in Arkansas where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached. He delivered his sermon in Little Rock in April 1963, shortly after his release from the Birmingham jail. Over the years, the church’s pulpit has welcomed notable figures such as Booker T. Washington, Dr. Benjamin Mays, President Bill Clinton, Governor Asa Hutchinson, and Mayor Frank Scott Jr., who announced his mayoral campaign from the pulpit.
