Gary Casey, founder of the Community Fishing Alliance, is organizing the “Big Catch” community fishing event on Saturday, September 21st, at Lake Valencia in Maumelle. The event will run from 8 a.m. to noon, and all are welcome to bring their fishing gear and kids for a fun-filled morning. Children under 16 do not need a fishing license to participate. Lawanna Allen and Rev. Benny Johnson of “Stop The Violence” will be speaking about “Stamped For Justice,” an organization that supports families who have lost loved ones to homicide. This event is a call for community unity in addressing gun violence. Attendees are encouraged to write letters to their elected officials, sharing their personal experiences with gun violence. DePaul USA State Director Carol Miles and former client Vincent Talley will present at the 2nd Annual Evening of Jazz fundraiser on Saturday, October 5th, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Venue at Westwind. After raising $100,000 at last year’s event, this year’s goal is to increase that amount by 25%. Proceeds will benefit DePaul USA’s homeless assistance programs in Arkansas, including the new Opportunity House Day Center in Pine Bluff and the upcoming Micro Village project in Little Rock, which will offer transitional housing for single adults and families.
