Prosecutors say Massachusetts teacher Colleen Ritzer was killed by a 14-year-old student. Ritzer's body was later found in the woods behind Danvers High School, where she taught classes.

Students and faculty alike say Philip Chism, a student at the school who played on the soccer team, was not the aggressive type and kept mostly to himself. As of yesterday, Chism stands charged of murder, and is being held without bail.

Officials haven't released a cause of death or discussed a motive in the killing.

Hundreds of people later turned out for a candlelight vigil at the school parking lot. Many wore pink sweatshirts, bows or T-shirts in tribute to Ritzer and her favorite color. The Boston Red Sox also held a moment of silence for Ritzer yesterday at Fenway Park before Game 1 of the World Series.

Doctors now have convincing evidence that they put HIV into remission, hopefully for good, in a Mississippi baby born with the AIDS virus. It's a medical breakthrough that is prompting a new look at how hard and fast such cases should be treated.

The new report says the girl, now three years old, was infected in the womb. She was treated rather aggressively and shows no active infection despite stopping AIDS medicines 18 months ago.

Doctors won't yet call it a cure because they don't know what proof or how much time is needed to declare someone free of HIV infection. A federal study will start next year to see if the results in this case can be reproduced.

An athletic director in northwest Arkansas was put behind bars on suspicion of stalking a child online.

Deputies arrested Fayetteville athletic director Barry Gebhart in Rogers at the Pinnacle Hill Mall where he allegedly went to meet an underage girl. School officials say Gebhart has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Bond was set at $750,000.

Almost everything fell into place for the Boston Red Sox in the World Series opener last night.

Mike Napoli hit a three-run double right after a game-changing decision in the first inning while Jon Lester made the early lead stand up. The Red Sox romped past the sloppy St. Louis Cardinals 8-1 for their ninth straight win in a World Series game.

Game 2 is Thursday night.

Looking for highs in the mid 60s today, dipping in to the mid 30s tonight — that's almost freezing, so watch for that. Cool and cloudy going into the weekend.
