Oscars Telecast Draws Biggest Audience In Five Years; Best Actor Winner Jeff Bridges Remembers His Father

Sunday's Oscars telecast wasn't hurting for viewers. An estimated 41.3 million people tuned into ABC to watch the ceremony, during which The Hurt Locker was named best picture. The total is an improvement from last year's Academy Awards telecast, which drew 36.3 million, and represents the Oscars' biggest audience since 2005, when about 42 million saw Million Dollar Baby win the top prize.

The ratings for Sunday's Oscars in the New York market were healthy, despite viewers there missing the first 13 minutes due to a dispute between Cablevision and ABC's parent company, Disney, which resulted in ABC removing its signal from Cablevision. It ranked 13th in ratings among the 56 biggest media markets.

Viewers on Sunday got to see Jeff Bridges win the best actor Oscar for Crazy Heart. During his acceptance speech, he credited his late father, actor Llyod Bridges, for teaching him about showbiz. Jeff Bridges wishes he had done the same for his three daughters when they were younger. He told ABC's Good Morning America on Monday, "Now they're in their early twenties and they're at that stage of their life -- well, what are we going to do? -- and I say hey, it's in your blood, you know, act."
